Pakayak - The Ultimate Packable Kayak

Created by Pakayak

Pakayak is a high performance hard-shell kayak that happens to come apart and pack down to 3.5 feet. And, it'll change the world. Go where you want, store it where you want, carry it on your back, take it in your convertible and paddle it just like a traditional hard-shell kayak.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

In Production & Shipping!
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 13, 2018 at 07:56:25 PM

Dearest Backers,

Winter storms and power outages interrupted our plan as we posted the last update which ended up viewable only by you, our Backers. Now, we want to share this great news with the world. (Backers, please forgive us for a bit of redundancy.)

Yes, we are in production and shipping!

See below for videos & photos, one shows the very first Bluefin 14 heading onto a UPS truck!!! Production is going very well – the boats look beautiful. As another blizzard hits the northeast today, please bear with us. We will keep you posted with more information as we have it. This is a slow process so please be patient as we allow manufacturing to ramp up.

THANK YOU, Backers!

As always, we remain, gratefully yours,
Team Pakayak (Doug, Zinelle, Day and Phil)

Boats passed testing! Production has begun!
about 8 years ago – Fri, Mar 02, 2018 at 11:32:35 PM

Dearest Backers,

We have just returned from our manufacturer where, we are happy to report, we are currently in production – Gregstrom is making and assembling beautiful Bluefin 14s!

We are so incredibly close to shipping now! We tested a boat yesterday - it passed with flying colors! We are going to take the weekend to do more extensive testing and we expect that the first Pakayak will be shipped on Tuesday!!!!

We so appreciate that you all have been very patient and have waited a long time – in April it will be one year since our due date.

We are so excited and we know you are, too. Please understand that in the moment we are not able to give you all exact shipping dates but just bear with us a bit longer knowing that parts are being made and boats will start shipping next week. At first, the rate of production is slow to ensure accuracy and consistency but will increase as Gregstrom becomes more proficient at the assembly process. We will continue to watch over the process as production ramps up to full speed.

In the meantime, please enjoy these photos that were taken at Gregstrom yesterday & today. You'll see parts in all the colors because Gregstrom needed to run each color through our molds to understand how the different colors reacted in the process. As we said, Surf is the first color in production.

As always, we remain, gratefully yours,
Team Pakayak (Doug, Zinelle, Day and Phil)

Good News, Testing Boats Tomorrow
about 8 years ago – Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 10:15:58 PM

Dear Backers,

Everything is coming along nicely. The parts are being molded well, the clamps are being installed consistently using our new tools, and the rigging is being added.

We know this has been a horribly long process with all the delays. Thank you for sticking with us through it all. We will never forget your loyalty. We have good things planned just for you, our backers.

We will be doing the final testing of the production boats tomorrow. From what we saw yesterday while at the manufacturer, we expect to be approving them for production. Once approved, production continues and shipping starts. We’ll post another update about the results as soon as we can.

As always, we remain, gratefully yours,

Great Progress At Gregstrom
about 8 years ago – Thu, Feb 22, 2018 at 01:50:57 PM

Dear Backers,

The team at Gregstrom has decided to implement some additions to the process of molding and assembling our boats, and we agree. They are adding back in a step that had been eliminated by our previous molder. This will ensure the mating sections interlock smoothly every time. Additionally, they are including a more accurate method of testing the molded parts for any porosity before they go to the assembly line.

They are currently molding new parts with these added steps which will be used for the final assembly of the first production boats for us to approve. This means we will be on site approving the boats next week, a few days later than we had planned but we know this will produce a better product for you and provide a more controlled manufacturing process with less room for error.

We apologize that we are not quite ready to ship, but this is a necessary step in the manufacturing process. As you can see below, Gregstrom is molding and assembling beautiful boats that will be shipped to you shortly.
